Upgrade to macOS Big Sur

Apple Macos Sierra 10.12

Testing conducted by Apple in October 2020 on production 1.4GHz quad-core Intel Core i5–based 13-inch MacBook Pro systems with 8GB of RAM, a 256GB SSD and prerelease macOS Big Sur. Systems tested with a WPA2 Wi-Fi network connection while running on battery power, with display brightness set to 12 clicks from the bottom or 75 per cent. ‎Download apps by Apple, including TestFlight, Beddit (for Model 3.5), Apple Developer, and many more.

Before installing this upgrade, make sure that your Mac is ready.

Check compatibility

macOS Big Sur supports most Mac models introduced in 2013 and later.

Make a backup

Before you upgrade, make a complete backup with Time Machine, or store your files in iCloud.

Free up space

If the installer needs more storage space to upgrade, you can free up space using tools that come with your Mac.

Download macOS Big Sur

If you’re using macOS Mojave or later, choose Apple menu  > System Preferences, then click Software Update. If you’re using an earlier macOS, use the App Store instead.

Widgets

Easily build widgets using the WidgetKit framework and the new widget API for SwiftUI. Widgets now come in multiple sizes, and users can visit the new widget gallery to search, preview sizes, and add them to Notification Center to access important details at a glance.
